Bo'ness Foreshore Consultation

| |

The plans for the regeneration of Bo'ness Foreshore were recently dealt a blow due to the continuing economic downturn, due in some measure, to the problems being experienced in the USA sub-prime mortgage market.

ING, the preferred developer, has indicated that the existing proposals, are no longer a viable option and for a successful long-term outcome it is necessary to change the order of proposed works.

Bo'ness Town Centre Development Group

Together with other interested groups Bo'ness means Business (BmB) has been invited to contribute to the future planning of the foreshore development.

Change of Plans!

The original outline planning consent, although still in place, is proposed modified and the scheduling of works altered to include the building of plots 15 and 16 in the initial phase with a further option on plot 14.

Proceeds from the resultant, realised ground values would be 'ring-fence' for the regeneration of the harbour area on an ongoing basis.

Consultation

At the first full meeting of the Development group (today, 19 May 2008) it was agreed that a consultation would be undertaken, involving all the residents of Bo'ness.

To proceed or not to proceed

The aim of the consultation is to obtain a firm expression of views from all elements of the Bo'ness community as the their support (or otherwise) for ING's scheme for the harbour and foreshore.

It will enable the council to make a fully informed decision on the proposal and determine the next steps.

Should a favourable outcome result, it will also lay the foundations for further community consultation and engagement on the scheme to take place.
